Andi Numan - Fat is Fun

Monday, March 19th, 2007

Andi Numan has had a passion for electronic music since his early teens. Taken in by the electric vibe of Auckland’s early underground rave scene he quickly got into djing. In the mid 90’s

Numan played out at events such as the 1st Gathering and a regular techno night at the Box. Then wanting to go further, Numan moved his lifelong study of music in the direction of all things electronica. Moving away from the public dj scene, he continued to develop his production and find his own sound.

Now Numan risks his title as NZ’s most widely unknown producer/dj to bring you “Fat is Fun”, an mix of his favorite party tracks from the last year. This mix, done with use of Ableton Live, is full of live tricks and nob twisting that goes beyond what is possible with just a mixer.

Speakeasy 0X8 - City Organic

Wednesday, February 14th, 2007

Somewhere inside the divide, Turnstyle & Suln discover directions towards a new form. Descending under a mechanical sky, the exploration reveals electronic patterns of construction, massive data pools, the feral spirals of situations and outcomes. A city.

Curious of free forming logic that exploits all frequency in range ‘ they decide to remain a while. Softly seeking placement amongst the indigenous energies that flux with an organic rhythm.

Simon Flower live at Fu, 21 Jan 2007, Auckland, New Zealand

Sunday, February 11th, 2007

Simon FlowerWell it’s been nearly a year so time for another live set innit.

This was recorded at Fu bar (fu.co.nz) at an Innersound gig (innersound.co.nz), which was nice because Fu and the Innersound boys and me go waaaay back bro…

Anyhoo, well compared to the ‘live at minim’ set (also kindly hosted by the good peeps at psurkit) this is most definitely a club set. It also includes some very fresh material - thrice as nice, late night, send in the clowns, beat street, distance learning and meeting the minutes were all made in a rather productive post-holiday/batteries recharged splurge in the 2 weeks preceding the gig.

Normally I stew on tracks for ages, ditch them, come back to them, ditch them again, have a bit more of a stew and then maaaaaybe get around to recording them – but I decided here to post this set with the new, and as yet un-stewed/ditched/re-ditched/re-stewed tracks.

Hope you enjoy it!

Simon

Saturday, July 15th, 2006

Time wears us out, this is the situation: either they destroy us, or we destroy them.

Against the wall, trapped with no resolution. Will the system begin to collapse? Is the only route available all out war? Is it a trick or will Love give us strength?

Simon Flower - Live at Minim

Saturday, May 27th, 2006

Simon FlowerI recorded this at the April installment of ‘Minim’, a free electronic night on the last Thursday of every month at Galatos Lounge in Auckland. Minim is put on by Melody and Rose and is not a ‘club night’. It kicks off early and is a place to come meet friends and have a drink, sit down and listen to live and DJ’d electronic music, and watch visuals performed live as well. For more info on Minim contact minimmusic@yahoo.co.uk

After playing in clubs for years I’ve really enjoyed the vibe of Minim, in that the ‘pressure’ to make people dance is gone. Even though I know my material is ‘dancey’, here I can just enjoy playing the music and kind of enjoy listening to myself play the music at the same time. When I listen to the set back, I can hear that in the overall sound - but of course all these things are ultimately subjective! Hope you enjoy it.
