Obscure - Dance Music in New Zealand

Simon Flower - Live at Minim

Simon FlowerI recorded this at the April installment of ‘Minim’, a free electronic night on the last Thursday of every month at Galatos Lounge in Auckland. Minim is put on by Melody and Rose and is not a ‘club night’. It kicks off early and is a place to come meet friends and have a drink, sit down and listen to live and DJ’d electronic music, and watch visuals performed live as well. For more info on Minim contact minimmusic@yahoo.co.uk

After playing in clubs for years I’ve really enjoyed the vibe of Minim, in that the ‘pressure’ to make people dance is gone. Even though I know my material is ‘dancey’, here I can just enjoy playing the music and kind of enjoy listening to myself play the music at the same time. When I listen to the set back, I can hear that in the overall sound - but of course all these things are ultimately subjective! Hope you enjoy it.

nice mix. i inadvertently had tool’s fa aip de oiad playing in the background and thought it’s a shame that the distortion is drowning out the nice melancholic, spacey synth until i realised what was going on ; ) nice listening to your tracks on innersound last night aswell. do you have anything out on cd or available as mp3s? and when are you playing in wellington.
